Our history

An original story!

The origin of the estate's name is somewhat original. In the literature, the pelican is the symbol of self-sacrifice. In times of great hunger, it would tear open its breast to feed its chicks, sacrificing its life for its offspring. It's not uncommon to find drawings depicting it in this way. The pelican is therefore a symbol of Christ.
We know that during the Crusades, the estate was a staging post for the Knights Templar, who gave it its present name.

The estate came into the family in an equally original way. In 1850, the son of one of our forebears living in Sète found himself at a poker table with a member of the de Laures family, a prominent Gignac family who owned the "campagne" on which the estate was situated. With nothing left to bet on a hand, he gambled away the title deeds to the Pelican estate!
On his return home, he was roundly reprimanded by his parents, who wondered what they were going to do with a wine estate in the commune of Gignac! We'd like to take this opportunity to thank the lucky owner of this card game.

Who we are

The estate and our family.

Baudouin, our father, arrived on the estate in 1970 with our grandfather with the aim of taking over the vineyard. They began a long process of replanting and renewing the quality of the vines. In 1975, our mother, Isabelle, arrived for the harvest. The following year, she moved to Pélican and never left!

For 40 years, our parents restored the estate, stone by stone, vineyard by vineyard, multiplying the activities to keep the place alive: camping on the farm, farm inn, bed and breakfast, then gîtes.

In 2020, their daughter Solenne and her husband Olivier returned to the estate to take over the winegrowing side of the business. They made their first wine in 2021 and converted the estate to organic farming.
In 2024, their second son Renaud and his wife Miyo joined the estate, taking over the hospitality and catering side of things.

Today, as the third generation, we are committed to making the most sincere wines on this estate, and to welcoming you to the finest experience possible.

Founded on the pillars of authenticity, kindness and generosity, our approach also incorporates a deep commitment to preserving the environment.
